It’s Back on the Employment Ladder Haswell Mum Angela

Angela Price from Haswell was supported into work by Acumen.  Daunted at the prospect of returning to work after three years of being out of the labour market, Angela turned to Acumen for advice.

Angela left work in 2003 and has been raising her two sons ever since.  When she decided to return to work, she contacted Acumen’s Adviser Alyson Upton, based in the Lisa Dixon Centre, Haswell.

With previous work experience in administration, Angela was interested in a temporary job at a local children’s centre, but was concerned about childcare.  So when she was offered the job, Alyson helped source funding to cover the childcare costs during her first month of employment.

Alyson said: “I am really pleased for Angela.  She was a pleasure to work with as she was easily motivated and put one hundred percent into everything she wanted to do.”

Angela was delighted with the support she received and said: “Acumen took me from being a stay at home Mam with no confidence, to being back in work and looking forward to my future.

“Alyson was really supportive with every aspect of my journey.  I expected to be just visiting her once a week and searching for jobs, but it was so much more than that.”

Although Angela’s initial job was to cover maternity leave, she has now taken her first step back into the job market following a career break and is looking forward to the exciting opportunities that lie ahead.
